Rapid Assessment of Pollution Sources (RAPS)

The Rapid Assessment of Pollution Sources (RAPS) is a method for estimating the quantity and type of contaminants arising from various sources, both point and diffuse, within a particular area. The estimate is based on knowledge of land use and activity within that area.

This website aims to enable a simple analysis of sources of pollution, within a specified area, and produce expected contaminant loads from these sources. This has been developed for the Global International Waters Assessment (GIWA) project, but can be applied to assess pollution in any area, by any user.

The methodology is divided into two sections, point and diffuse. The results of these analyses are comparable but are undertaken separately to assist ease of use. This also provides the user with the option of assessing only the point sources, or only the diffuse sources. If both analyses are undertaken there is an option to combine the results at the end.
